A REAL INTERNSHIP with REAL RESULTS

*5-Day All Expenses Paid Training Conference in Los Angeles*

My internship with the Greek Telephone Directory was by far my most beneficial college experience. As Panhellenic President, I can definitely see the students at the University of Nebraska benefiting from the books, as well as many businesses in our community. Throughout my college experience I knew that I was interested in a career in business, yet I was unable to find my niche. Over the past summer, with the help of the GTD, I was able to discover that a career in sales was definitely in my future. As I have been interviewing for post graduation jobs, I know that my sales experience is putting me ahead of the game. The tools I developed through the hands on experience working with the Greek Telephone Directory has been priceless! I would highly recommend it to anyone! Don't let yourself miss out!

Kirstin Maurstad, Panhellenic President, University of Nebraska

To get a job in today's economy, you need to be more than another name in the stack. You need something on your resume that you can point out to recruiters and say "this is what I am most proud of". You need to be able to show them something that you did all by yourself. Anyone can file papers in an office as a "clerical intern", and recruiters know this. Ever since I put my GTD achievements on my resume (managed 70 advertising accounts, generated $32,000 in revenue with 25% growth from previous year, etc.) I have been accepted for 6 interviews and received 5 job offers, not to mention the 5 job offers I received from business owners throughout the summer. The GTD gives you every tool that you will need to be a successful representative, but how you put them to use is up to you. The benefits of this position are endless, so put down that spatula, quit flipping burgers, and dive into a summer of practical experience that you will never forget.

Michael Jackson, Delta Upsilon, University of Washington

Working for the Greek Telephone Directory truly set myself apart from my classmates. I went into my senior year with powerful sales expertise, valuable networking contacts, professional references and a sharper focus for my career plans. The tools I developed through the hands on experience working with the Greek Telephone Directory has been priceless! An internship with the Greek Telephone Directory is by far the closest experience you can get to working in the "real world." This is a once in a life time opportunity that definitely should not be overlooked!

Kristin Lercara, Pi Beta Phi, University of Nebraska-Lincoln

My experience with the Greek Telephone Directory has been the most influential job experience in choosing a career path for myself. The internship provides students with a hands on experience in sales, advertising and marketing while creating a book that you know will be beneficial to a community that you are involved in. It places you into a network of people that may help you when searching for postgraduate full time employment. Even though I have had numerous internships, it is my experience with the Greek Telephone Directory that is the single most important experience my resume. Prospective employers are extremely impressed with the skills I obtained and demonstrated through the internship.

Kate Davis, Alpha Phi, University of Delaware

My experiences this past summer as an Account Executive with the Greek Telephone Directory have been nothing but positive. Because of this internship, I learned exactly what I wanted to do upon my graduation, which is more than I can say for other Seniors at KU. The GTD has also given me valuable work experience that has impressed employers in my first interviews. If you want to gain valuable work experience, make unbelievable money, and have an internship where you are an integral part of a company, GTD is for you. I can't think of a better way to spend a summer!

Andrew Schurle, Beta Theta Pi, University of Kansas

Working for the Greek Telephone Directory this past summer was one of the best decisions I could have ever made. Thanks to the help of my sales managers, I feel comfortable walking into any interview or office and using my selling skills that I learned through this job. In the fall when the directories come out, there is not a better feeling then seeing those directories that you have worked so hard putting together. I undoubtedly gained incredible experience on the job and skills that most internships do not let you have. With the account executive position, it seemed as if I was running my own business, and after this summer I definitely know that a Marketing or Sales position is in my future. I would recommend this internship over any other since you work for two great guys who really do care about you and I know that I could ask them to help me with any future job considerations.

Cribb Altman, Beta Theta Pi, University of Kansas

Want to change your life in one summer? Well I certainly didn't think this was possible, until my internship with the Greek Telephone Directory. Serving as an Account Executive gave me the opportunity to develop skills that set me apart from others in the workforce. The money I earned was more than sufficient, but the experience I had was priceless. No matter what question I had, be it day or night, my sales managers were there for me. This type of relationship encouraged my outlook on future employment. I hope to one day find a company that cares about their employees as much as the GTD cares about their interns! :)

Jennifer Broder, Alpha Chi Omega, University of Georgia

I can honestly say that,“if it weren’t for The Greek Telephone Directory, I would not have landed the sales position I’m in at such a young age.” With more people graduating from college year after year in such a competitive job market, it’s becoming harder and harder for college students to get a job right after graduation. What set me apart from all the other and older interviewees was the fact that The GTD had provided me with the recourses I needed to prove that I was the more qualified and experienced candidate. I was able to show my future employer that I was capable of managing my time wisely, executing proper follow up, being persistent, achieving set goals, and maintaining a positive mind frame in all situations. Not to mention, the position required a second interview; I didn’t fall into that category. Because of the skills and experience I have acquired through the GTD, I was considered “over qualified” and hired right away.

Jenna Orr, Zeta Tau Alpha, Florida State University

Last summer, I did the Greek Telephone Directory internship, and I have to say that I have never had an experience quite like it. It was so fun that I couldn't think of it as work! Because of the experience I received through this internship, I have the skills needed for survival in the collegiate world - and beyond. It has to be said - I am not a marketing major. But, no matter what your future plans are, one way or another, you will have to marketing yourself. Whether it's to the graduate school you want to attend or to a CEO you want to hire you, we all need to know how to market ourselves. And the money!!! Let's put it this way, I don't have to work again for quite a while! The prestige that comes along with knowing that I've sold over $30,000 worth of advertisement space is reward enough, but the monetary value helps just the same! To have the opportunity to be a part of something this huge is so awesome; it really offers a chance to see what the real world is like, and how much fun it can be.

Jennie Matlock, Phi Mu, Oklahoma State University

My experience as a Greek Telephone Directory intern is by far the best thing that has ever happened to me. This internship has prepared me for the future more than any college course I have ever taken. It has also provided me with the confidence and experience that I need for the “real world.” One of the best things about this internship is the feeling of accomplishment I had at the end of summer and when the publication arrived at my school. If you are looking for way to make great money in a short amount of time and gain benefits that will help your future like you have always dreamed of, then this is the job for you!

Melissa Charron, Zeta Tau Alpha, Georgia Southern

Working for the Greek Telephone Directory is the best way to learn about self-motivation, discipline, and how to interact with people. This past summer I learned so much about what it takes to be successful because I operated in an environment where I controlled the effort I applied and the rewards I gained. I learned when to bend for people and when you have to be stern and put your foot down. This internship has given me the confidence and necessary experience to approach the entire spectrum of the business community without being timid or hesitant. As a liberal arts person, and not being business inclined at all; I learned that through having good communication skills and being organized that I can achieve any career related goals that I might have. The GTD internship is basically a guide for what you can, and will do for the rest of your life.

Ryan Pedersen, Sigma Chi University of Illinois

All I really knew about the GTD internship when I interviewed for the job was that the guy who did it the year before made lots of money. I defiantly made the money I hoped to make, but even more important than that were the experiences I gained. I enhanced my communication skills, I made some interesting business contacts here in Auburn (got offered a few jobs too), and most importantly I learned to be a self motivator. You definitely get out of this job what you put in, but if you don't mind working then you will be rewarded most handsomely.

Colin Brooks, Sigma Nu, Auburn University

Sick and tired of working jobs that hindered my potential, I looked into an internship at the Greek Telephone Directory. At the time, I thought that I would be able to sell anything that was put in front of me. The Greek Directory sold itself. All I had to do was sell myself, which was exactly what the internship taught me. I learned that a smile and handshake go beyond anything I could have ever imagined. More importantly, I learned that there are no limits to what I can do, if I just believe in myself.

Thanks to the GTD, I've made hundreds of invaluable contacts that allow me to network better than ever before. I have taken the knowledge that the Greek Directory has given me and started many other successful entrepreneurial ventures. Now, I see a business world full of opportunities instead of dead ends, and I know that I won't ever find myself trapped in a job that limits my ability to excel.

Justin Franks, Kappa Alpha Order, University of Colorado

You may not believe this, but I honestly feel as though the GTD internship has had a direct influence on my future. Before my internship, I really had no idea what I was interested in pursuing. After completing the internship, I knew I would be successful in sales. This internship has strengthen my people skills, and has allowed me to gain confidence in my sales performance. This summer, I competed with local television and radio station account executives, yellow pages, local newspapers and other directories, and was able to even offer better deals than some of my competitors. The networking skills that I received this summer are unbelievable. Working in a smaller market allowed me to really connect with people in the community. I am still recognized by store owners, and I have kept good relationships with all of my clients. Whenever my friends mention a store or restaurant in Knoxville, I am always SO proud to boast that they were one of my clients this summer. This internship has made me confident that I can be very successful as a sales executive after graduation. I think the most important part about sales is to believe in the product you are selling. I fully believe that the Greek Telephone Directory is an excellent means to reach college Greek students. Our training prepared us for almost everything we encountered this summer. Overall, I could not have asked for a better internship. Good luck to all the new accounts and I hope your experience will be as influencing as mine!

Holly Hicks, University of Tennessee, Phi Mu

My internship with the Greek Telephone Directory this past summer provided me with the skills and confidence I need to enter any work force. I developed networking skills and relationships with businesses throughout the Midwest. I truly believed in the product I was selling and saw its unlimited benefits to businesses and students alike. My sales manager gave me unending motivation, and he showed me that I really can do anything. The Greek Telephone Directory has prepared me for any job, gave me a sense of responsibility, and has opened my eyes to a career in sales. If you are an outgoing and persistent person, this internship is definitely for you. It will prepare you for the rest of your life!

Jessica Rogers, Pi Beta Phi, University of Illinois

Working for the Greek Telephone Directory was a perfect taste of what the real business world was going to be like upon graduation. From the exciting and informative training session in Los Angeles to the building of relationships with clients to the thrill of an actual sale, the GTD left me with the skills necessary to succeed in a job. One quick success story - After dealing with a client all summer about running an ad, I finally sold one on the last day of summer. I helped him come up with a promotion for his deli to have half-price food on Sundays if you wore your Greek letters. The Sunday after the book hit campus, I went to the deli to check it out. The place was packed with students decked out in their Greek apparel. The owner actually ran out of food and he was amazed at the awesome buying power that Greeks have. Since I am graduating this semester, all I ever talk about in interviews is my great experience with the GTD while other students are left talking about their summer fetching coffee or flipping burgers.

Nigel Morton, Delta Tau Delta, University of Missouri-Columbia

My experience this summer working for The Greek Telephone Directory was amazing. I remember the first day, I was so discouraged because I had to call my sales manager and tell him I didn’t sell anything. Needless to say, he calmed me down and helped me work on my pitch, and by the end of the week, I had sold twice as many as my goal. Each time I had a challenging client, he would remind me of that day and tell me to stick with it. I did, and it turned out to be one of the most valuable learning experiences I’ve ever had. I am applying for jobs now, and each time an interviewer asks me to discuss something I am proud of I take out the GTD and can’t quick talking about it. My clients to this day know my name and speak to me when I walk into their business. It’s an awesome feeling.

Beth Ann Brannon, Phi Mu, University of Alabama

Wow! What an amazing experience I had this past summer with The Greek Telephone Directory. This internship is by far full of long lasting opportunities for a lifetime! While working with the GTD, I learned the most important guidelines about sales that I will carry into any job. I was very anxious at first, but this internship provided me with the confidence I had always lacked! By hearing encouragement all summer, my partner and I were able to triple sales at our school compared to the years before!!! This internship has already made the biggest impact on my life than any internship or job I have ever done. I would recommend this experience to anyone!

Angie K. Doss, Delta Gamma, Mississippi State

My internship with the Greek Telephone Directory has changed my life and I couldn't be more thankful! I started this internship going into my sophomore year as a pre-med student and over the course of the summer not only did I gain real-world experience working with over 300 business owners and their associates but I also realized what I want to do after college. I am now applying to Michigan's Business School and this internship has already made my application stand out from the rest. This internship was challenging but in the end it has made me a more mature, confident, and successful student not to mention the financial rewards it offers! I'd have to say that besides the life-changing effect this internship had on me, the next best result was definitely the commission I made this summer. If you are committed you can earn a lot of money and believe me it's worth every minute you spend on the job! This internship is amazing not only for business majors but anyone looking for an enriching summer job. You'll love it too; I couldn't recommend a better internship!!

Jessica Gollish, Sigma Kappa, University of Michigan

The Greek Telephone Directory Internship is by far the most valuable job I have had so far in my life. I did this internship the summer before my junior year in college and it has made a huge difference in the way I think about and approach business situations. It taught me more than I expected to learn about sales positions and what aspects of the business world I want to pursue. In just a couple of months my courage and confidence took a dramatic leap and now I feel like I could walk up to anyone, including Donald Trump, and present myself proudly and intelligently. This internship also opened up a lot of job opportunities immediately, because everyone loves an employee who knows and practices quality sales tactics. I have never had a job that has taught me so many valuable skills in such a short time, and I feel fortunate to have had this opportunity. Try it out! You will only be pleased with your experience!

Danielle Atchison, Treasurer of Chi Omega, Washington State University

Last summer, I received one of the most beneficial opportunities of my college career! Through my internship with The Greek Telephone Directory, I have learned more than I could ever learn in a classroom. There just aren't many other students who can say they've had the kind of experience that I've had as Account Executive. With today's tough job market, an internship with The Greek Telephone Directory will provide you with the skills that will make you stand out! Along with the overwhelming feeling of accomplishment at the end of the summer and the big bucks, you will have those qualities that will put you ahead of the game in the future. I thoroughly enjoyed this past summer and all of the great people I worked with. So, if you crave the kind of "real world" experience that will put you ahead, this internship is for YOU!

Sandi Hall, Zeta Tau Alpha, University of South Carolina

Experience, confidence, achievement! These are three invaluable attributes that I have gained while working with the Greek Telephone Directory. Because I will soon be graduated from college, having work experience in the business world is significant. Through this real world experience, I have learned important skills such as expressive speaking, persuasion, and communicating with different personality types. I believe these skills have given me an advantage over others when interviewing for jobs. Not only do I have experience working in the sales, advertising and marketing fields, but this internship has also helped build my confidence. By the time the internship has drawn to an end, it is great to reflect back on how much you have achieved. Working with the Greek Telephone Directory is an amazing opportunity that provides a unique internship experience.

Meghan Liebovich, Delta Gamma, University of Colorado

Congrats! You have found one of the best college internships out there! I definitely believe that you get out of it 100% what you put into it, and it will be rewarding not only monetarily but through the confidence, responsibility and ability to communicate to others that you will gain. The experiences I took from this internship have translated to so many other areas in my life. And the best part is it's a blast! You have enough autonomy to do it yourself but you also work for people who encourage and help you every day. I highly recommend this experience to anyone who will work hard enough to reap the benefits ten fold!!!

Liz Wills, Alpha Delta Pi, University of North Carolina

Going into my final year of college, I knew that at one point in my life I wanted to start my own business. Working for the GTD gave me the opportunity to practice operating a business, because that’s essentially what I did. My sales manager mentored me by refining my sales and networking skills, while I managed accounts for various businesses after I closed the deal. If you’d like to one day own a business, get the experience now—oh, and by the way, it pays well and you’ve got a mentor to help you achieve your goals!

Mike Schnieders, Pi Kappa Alpha, University of Georgia

Want to land the professional job of your dreams? Want to one up your competition in every interview you go to? Then, TAKE THIS INTERNSHIP! I really can not say that enough. Working as a summer intern for the Greek Telephone Directory has been one of the best experiences I have undertaken in my college career. Don't miss your chance to take this internship! It will teach you the things that you simply can't learn in the classroom. Teachings that you can take into the real world and use in job interviews and on the job itself. This job will change you and your future. Don¹t let it pass you by!

Brian Babik, Kappa Alpha Order, Miami University (Ohio)

Stepping onto the plane headed to LA, I never knew what this experience was going to give me. I applied for the internship knowing that it would look good on my resume and help me get a little experience, but I did not know how much I would learn from my GTD experience. Managing my own schedule and own accounts was challenging but very rewarding. I had no idea the organization and tenacity it took to manage your own clients. This experience has given me so much experience and confidence, that I feel like I am one step ahead of graduates my age. The skills and confidence I learned are things I will carry with me into every interview, job and just everyday life. This is one of the best experiences I have ever had and I am thankful for the opportunity to have served such a fine organization of people. Thanks for always pushing me to do better!!!

Stefanie Heermans, Kappa Alpha Theta, Texas Tech

My internship experience with the Greek Telephone Directory is at the top of my list as one of the best decisions I ever made. As a senior, I knew it would be the last chance I had to challenge myself and get some real-world work experience before getting out of college. It truly was a challenge, but I succeeded and proved to myself the notion that hard work does pay off. I feel more confident about going into interviews as I begin job-hunting and I feel that the sales experience I gained from this internship has given me a leg up over my peers. I enjoyed selling a product I believed in, as well as working for a company that believed in me!

Lindsay Reynolds, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Clemson University

Working for The Greek Telephone Directory this summer was one of the most beneficial experiences I have had in my life. It gave me the confidence to know that I can succeed in any career I choose. I learned about everything from using different sales techniques to keeping my self-organized. I think the most beneficial lesson I learned this summer is the only thing that can stop a person from achieving their goals are the self limiting beliefs that a person might have for themselves. Participating in this internship puts you one step above everyone else. I would recommend this internship to anyone!

Adam Blustein, Indiana University

I am a Pi Beta Phi at the University of Kentucky. When I first heard about the internship for The Greek Telephone Directory, it sounded like a wonderful opportunity. I went through all the phone interviews and wasn't exactly sure that I would be chosen, due to the fact that there are so many other students at UK that would be interested in the internship as well. Once I got the phone call, telling me that I was chosen to be the account executive for the Greek Telephone Directory I was thrilled. Going into this there were so many things running through my mind as to how well I would do or what types of situations I was going to have to face. After three months of this internship, I can definitely say that is changed me as a person. It taught me to learn how to deal with different types of people, it has prepared me for what I will be doing for the rest of my life, and it has taught me to be more independent. This is a real job and to be a part of the whole experience is the most rewarding of all. The GTD has taught me so much throughout the entire experience, more so than any of my college professors have. This is a hands on experience that I am very gracious to have been part of.

Courtney Barker, University of Kentucky

In comparison to other internships I've completed, the Greek Telephone Directory was by far the most rewarding. It allowed me to gain the confidence and hands-on experience I need for the future. As account executive I was able to challenge myself and increase my networking skills. I know that during interviews my sales experience places me above the rest. If you are looking for an internship that will provide you with real life experience, then this is the job for you...Good luck!

Tiffany Callaway, Delta Zeta, Ball State University

Working for the Greek Telephone Directory or as I like to call it "the GTD Family" was one of the greatest experiences of my life. It gave me an enormous amount of confidence as I proved to myself that I could be Successful in the "real world". Not only did this internship give me the chance to make a lot of money over the summer, it also gave me the work experience necessary to find a great job directly out of college. Trust me; a reference from the GTD family is second to none when you are looking for that perfect job. This is the best internship a college student could possibly ask for.

Chad Sinclair, Alpha Tau Omega, University of Nebraska

As a second year member of Alpha Phi at UC Santa Barbara, I knew that scoring an internship was imperative for obtaining a career after college. After learning about the Greek Telephone Directory, I eagerly applied for the program, but nothing could prepare me for what this seemingly ordinary summer internship has brought forth. After taking part in this incredible occupation last summer, it was a very easy decision to enter into my second year with this company. I can honestly vouch that my participation with the Greek Telephone Directory has been one of the most excellent decisions I have made for my future. I have already been offered three job opportunities, straight out of college, solely based on my summer performance. Not only has it taught me about myself and my own potential, but also how to survive the reality of the business world. I learned the ropes of negotiation from business owners, and gained much respect, testing the waters of commerce that most people do not step into until much later in their lives. I urge everyone to take advantage of this internship, and can guarantee you this taste of entrepreneurship is worth it. Each day of my summer was exciting and new thanks to this unique and creative opportunity to make money and have fun doing it!

Jennifer Ferland, Alpha Phi, UC Santa Barbara

My internship with the Greek Telephone Directory was definitely an experience of a lifetime. As cliché as that sounds, it is true. This internship gives you the opportunity to challenge yourself and stretch your limits personally and professionally. While my sales managers are always there for guidance and support, the ball is truly in your court when it comes to pushing yourself and creating success. After completing my internship, I now have the confidence and the skills necessary to find new success in my future career endeavors. I am grateful for the opportunity the GTD gave me and I highly recommend this internship for anyone who is ready to take advantage of one of the greatest opportunities out there for driven young students, with goals to make it big in the real world.

Ashley Albrecht, Kappa Kappa Gamma, University of Wisconsin-Madison

I believe my internship with the Greek Directory was extremely beneficial. In a way, you are running your own business and I cannot think of a better way to prepare yourself for the "real world". I learned the importance of persistence, organization, flexibility and communication skills that will definitely help me in the future. I now have the confidence to walk into an interview and sell myself to any potential employer. Perhaps the best part of this internship is the pride you feel when the directory is published and you can witness your peers using it everyday. If you are up for a challenging, yet rewarding summer experience, then this is the perfect opportunity for you!

Leslie Blackman, Delta Gamma, Indiana University

When I first started as an intern with the Greek Telephone Directory I was not entirely sure how I was going to do as a salesman. But, over the summer, I developed confidence that I wasn't aware I possessed. That confidence has carried over to my everyday life, especially in my job search. I can go into any interview or meeting knowing that I have the communication skills necessary to sell myself and develop a relationship with anyone that I need to. The GTD was great and their constant feedback and mentoring really helped fuel my growth this summer. I learned more about myself and my potential this summer than I ever thought I would. I can't think of a better way to have spent my summer.

Brett Herkenhoff, Zeta Beta Tau, University of Southern California

What a way to spend my summer...by interning for the Greek Telephone Directory, I was able have a great time living in College Park with my best friends, while making more money than any of them were by life guarding or waitressing! And I certainly had a much better time than those I knew who were interning for other companies--no paper-pushing or tedious office filing here! Instead, I was out every day, making contacts in the local business community, discovering great new shops and restaurants, and signing Maryland students' favorite retailers, bars, and eateries to ads. I gained so much confidence and poise, and learned how to market myself as well as the product. I can't think of anything more appealing to a potential employer than to see that a young student (and graduate-to-be) was able to independently generate so much revenue and sell, sell, sell. After this great experience, I'm definitely a step ahead on success in the working world :)

Nicole Marsiglia, University of Maryland

Going into this summer, I really didn't know what i was getting into, but as the summer progressed, I realized that this internship with the Greek Telephone Directory was going to be more beneficial to me than any other job or club I had participated in. I got more real, hands-on experience than I ever could have with any other job. Not only did I make tons of contacts in Ann Arbor which have helped me since (gotten me tons of free stuff), but I learned about the importance of forming relationships. After gaining a large degree of confidence this summer, I can walk up to anyone and start a conversation with them. I actually gained skills that will help me in the real world and in the career I pursue, so I would recommend this internship to any one - it'll be worth it.

Rishi Mukhi, Alpha Sigma Phi, University of Michigan

My experience last summer with the Greek Telephone Directory was amazing. I am still reaping the benefits and will for a long time to come. Prospective employers consider the internship to be a huge factor in my assets. If you like meeting people, the thrill of the sale, and can be persuasive and persistent, this internship is excellent for you. I am amazed at how much I grew as a person during this summer, and at how responsible I became. In addition, you get to meet awesome people from all over the country at the conference, and the training is excellent. It prepares you for the summer ahead. This internship was honestly one of the best things I have ever done and I would highly recommend it to anyone that has the skills to do it.

Jesseca Berson, Gamma Phi Beta, University of Illinois

No matter what school you go to, the GTD is a fantastic opportunity. That is however, if you are interested in marketing/sales, meeting new people, and making money. Working for the GTD will better prepare you for your transition from college to your career than any summer job/internship available. My two year experience with the GTD was priceless, and I realized this only after I started my career. I was leaps and bounds ahead of other people my age because I had already managed accounts, went on business development meetings, and assisted owners in making decisions that would effect their businesses. Here were my options: make $7.00 hr, pick up my bosses laundry, stuff envelopes, and do busy work. Or , develop new business, make new contacts, and earn as much money as I wanted. If a position is open at your school, take a close look at the GTD, it's truly a unique opportunity.

Ben Weprin, Sigma Phi Epsilon, University of Tennessee

I have worked for the GTD for the past three summers. When I initially signed on in the summer of 2000 I did so because I wanted to make the most money in the shortest amount of time possible. Even though I did just that I also gained from the experience more than I could have ever asked for. I gained sales experience; I bettered my communication skills; I learned how to turn a "no" into a "yes"; but best of all I gained a lasting friendship (and one hell of a business reference) that will do me more good than any of the above mentioned positives. So, if you are thinking about a summer internship I urge you to at least apply for this one. It will be the best decision you will ever make-hands down!

Graham Bodie, Phi Delta Theta, Auburn University

My internship as an account executive for the Greek Telephone Directory has given me the experience of a lifetime. This internship has allowed me to grow as a person while giving me the opportunity to challenge myself. I have learned so many things in the fields of advertising, public relations, marketing, and sales that I would never have been able to learn in the classroom. I will take away many things from my experience at the GTD, but above all I will walk away with the confidence knowing that with hard work, persistence, and communication skills I can accomplish anything.

Lisa Trafficanta, Gamma Phi Beta, University of Illinois

My experience as an Account Executive for the Greek Directory was more rewarding than any other internship or job I've ever had. Every day I went home knowing that my summer job was benefiting my future and teaching me life lessons that I could never learn in a classroom. I've recently started interviewing for other internships and I've realized that every company respects someone who has worked in sales. If the self satisfaction wasn't enough, then the money definitely was! When all my roommates were complaining about life guarding in the hot sun or sitting in an office all day I was calculating how much money I made that day, thinking about all the awesome connections I made in the community, and wondering what was going to happen the next day that would challenge me more than the day before. There is no better internship a college student can have than the Greek Directory.

Ashley Tingle, Kappa Alpha Theta, University of Kentucky

Being an Account Executive this last summer for the Greek Telephone Directory was one of the most valuable experiences I have gained so far in college. Not only did I get to learn so much about my college community and all that my campus had to offer but I also built relationships with community and the Greek System at my school. The GTD internship was motivating and after this past summer I felt like I was able to take on anything that confronted me. I not only grew more confident as an individual but the experience also contributed to my leadership role in my chapter as well. If you want to have a great summer and at the same time produce an absolute amazing product, such as the Greek Telephone Directory for your school, than I definitely recommend you take this internship.

Lindsay Laws, Kappa Alpha Theta, UC San Diego

I can honestly say that being an account executive for GTD has been one of the most rewarding experiences I've had thus far. Going into my senior year in marketing, this job experience has taught me things that classroom teachings do not provide. This internship with GTD is different than others in that it is so hands on, and you play a crucial role in creating an important publication that benefits the Greek Community, as well as participating businesses. I have gained real life experiences and have made many great business contacts through this internship. It has provided a strong foundation that I need in order to pursue my future career in marketing and sales.

Annie Mu, Alpha Phi, University of Iowa

The GTD was a great and new experience for me. Much different from the other summer jobs I have had in the past, this one really made me work on my communication skills, people skills and customer service skills, all of which look very impressive on your resume as I am finding out myself. My sales managers were great bosses and would stop what they were doing to help us out on sales, thanks guys. Thanks for a wonderful and challenging summer.

Ryan Lewin, President Lambda Chi Alpha, University of Florida

You might be looking for that perfect internship, I sure was. The one that pays you ton's of money and doesn't make you slave away in the copy room all day in a business suit. Unfortunately, not everyone can be as lucky as me or the hundred other interns that worked for the Greek Telephone Directory this summer. It began as the result of a random impulse after deciding not to do that "other" internship. After enjoying the sights and sounds of Chicago, meeting new friends, and gaining immense knowledge about "relationship marketing" at the summer training conference, I had no idea what was in store for me. Within the first five minutes on the job, I immediately called my sales manager sobbing because an owner had kicked me out of his store. I remember sitting in the parking lot wondering what I had gotten myself into. However, I was determined not to let this one instance get me down. That day on the phone with Steve, the President and founder of the Greek Telephone Directory, I remember saying that I had aged five years in just one day. Indeed, I had. I learned an important lesson that day: the power of failure. Nothing of value comes without sacrifice. Within the next week, I began to sell like crazy and as they say "the rest is history." Honestly, I am not a "sales-person" and definitely not "a smooth talker." Just ask anyone who knows me. So, how was I successful this summer? I had fun and worked hard along way. Just from the few months working as an account executive for the directory, I befriended over 200 owners in my area, had numerous job offers, and now get my haircut and eat for free at numerous establishments. The Greek Directory gives you the experience needed to enter into a competitive job market and be able to "sell yourself." This internship has not only opened the window of opportunity for me but has given me the key to success as well. After this summer, I truly believe that I could do anything and sell anything for that matter. I can't wait for next summer!

I was a little apprehensive accepting the internship with GTD, but after leaving the training in Chicago I couldn't wait to start my first day. My GTD experience was very self satisfying because I worked hard and achieved all the goals I set for myself...I reached the top commission % rate, grossed over $17,000 in sales, and had a great time too! This has been, by far, the best job I have ever had in my life and the most money I have ever made! Now I can easily interview for almost any job, and the GTD has given me the proven successful sales experience that employers are looking for. This internship has given me the confidence and experience I need to succeed in the "real world" and I highly recommend it if you are lucky enough to receive an offer.

Katie Keblusek, Delta Zeta, Virginia Tech

My experience as an Account Executive for the Greek Directory was by far more worthwhile than I could have ever imagined. I not only gained a great internship to add to my resume, but I also pulled in some huge checks! Trust me, you'll meet tons of great people in the community, learn a lot of useful, professional skills, and make great business connections-- I've already been offered three different jobs! This experience is a must for anyone looking to get ahead of the pack.

Ryan Malstaff, Sigma Tau Gamma, Illinois State University

My summer working for the Greek Directory was priceless. I have never learned so much about myself in such a short amount of time. In four months, I developed my interpersonal communication skills to turn a simple “no” or “maybe” response into a “yes, definitely!” I also set performance goals and exceeded them and the expectations of the company. The experience was challenging and worth more to me than the cash I earned from having it – and believe me, there is no limit to how much money you can make for yourself with this internship. The Greek Directory is a first class business. Everyone received excellent training and gained an invaluable job reference along the way. If you have the opportunity to become an account executive on your campus you can’t turn it down.

Michael Oldenburg, Alpha Tau Omega, University of Minnesota

I could have never asked for a better internship than the Greek Telephone Directory. The internship got me out into the real world interacting with the community and allowed me to gain skills and knowledge that I can apply to my future career. I loved going Iowa City and getting to know all the business owners and helping them come up with ways to attract Greeks to their business. It doesn’t hurt to have the owners know you either when it comes time to eat dinner at their restaurant or buy a workout membership at their club! Everyday was truly different and I never got bored with what I was doing. This internship really taught me how to be self motivated and actually make something happen each and every day. The harder and more dedicated I was to this job, the more I got out it, especially when it came to getting paychecks. As I start to interview for jobs after I graduate, it is great to be able to show potential employers that I have physically helped improve sales for a company, can set high goals and accomplish them, and can work well with various people in the community. These are just a few of the wonderful skills I got from the Greek Telephone Directory.

Michelle Norton, Delta Gamma, University of Iowa

From the beginning, I knew the GTD would change my summer; I didn’t realize it would change my life! Everyday, I see the benefits of my experiences as an intern. I am clearly a more responsible, determined, efficient and confident person. Not only have I gained an intimate understanding of what success in the “real world” requires, but I have earned strong, positive relationships with countless business contacts – two things that will guarantee a great job after college. Above all, the GTD is fun. It’s an extraordinary chance to meet all kinds of people, and to work with friendly bosses who will do anything to heighten your success!

Kristen Oleson, Alpha Chi Omega, University of North Carolina

I must admit that when I began working for The Greek Telephone Directory I was skeptical about it. I was the first representative for my school and I would be working with the smallest of all the 62 markets that the publication targets. To be completely honest my sales successes started off few and far between and I was having serious doubts about the entire thing. The first couple of weeks were tough but then my training and persistence began to pay off. As the directory was growing so was my ability to inspire confidence in potential advertisers. I realized I was not just selling ads but actually building a publication, establishing good will and creating a client base that hadn't previously existed. I noticed that my interpersonal dynamic and communication skills had greatly improved and were continuing to do so. I could not have predicted how much I would benefit from the work on The Greek Telephone Directory not to mention the income I earned on commission. Now as I apply for jobs in an extremely competitive job market, I am finding the experience I gained working for The Greek Telephone Directory to be extremely helpful and also impressive to interviewers. To those looking for an internship that will offer an experience beyond the secretarial filing, phone answering, and getting coffee for the boss, I urge you to rise to the challenge and responsibilities that come with an internship with The Greek Telephone Directory and you will see the rewards firsthand.

Ryan Barr, Sigma Phi Society, University of Vermont

When I first applied for the internship with the Greek Telephone Directory I felt as though there had to be some sort of catch. It all seemed too perfect! And it was. Working for the Greek Telephone Directory has given me the experience of daily situations that I needed in order to excel in other sales positions. Had it not been for the Greek Telephone Directory, I never would have received my job directly out of college. I gained not only experience, but confidence when dealing with situations and friendship throughout my college town.

Erin Hess, Chi Omega, University of Georgia

After hearing about the Greek Telephone Directory's Internship Program from a former participant, I knew it would be an interesting experience. I had no idea that interesting would turn out to be nothing short of amazing! Working independently was awesome and the opportunities for success were unlimited. I quickly found out that being an account executive is what you make of it and if you work hard, the rewards are phenomenal. Last summer I was stuffing envelopes and sending faxes for $9 an hour...this summer I was setting my own goals, taking risks, meeting people, managing my own accounts, and making more money than I thought possible for a college intern. This internship is a learning experience that will help you not only in ad sales, but in all aspects of life. Just think of how many times you try to convince your parents to let you go on Spring Break or ask your professor to let you hand in a late paper. You WILL learn those skills here. I learned so much about myself and how to turn "no" into "YES!". Every day is something new and you truly grow through your many summer experiences. In fact, this internship completely changed my future career goals! Take my word for it, you will love working for the GTD.

Jess Mandel, Chi Omega, Penn State University

The summer before my senior year, I needed to DO something. My major at UNC-Chapel Hill was advertising and I had no experience in the field. A flier for The Greek Telephone Directory internship was posted in the communication center of my sorority house, Alpha Chi Omega, and I decided to call. Steve, the owner, interviewed me over the phone and offered me the position after a series of conversations. At the time, I was excited about the opportunity to work for the GTD. Looking back, that first phone call I made to Steve was the most valuable decision I've ever made. My experience with the GTD taught me to work hard, be persistent at anything I do, and respect both the people I work with and myself. I had never had to try so hard at anything before, but I'd never felt so successful or accomplished either. This internship is not only a way to avoid moving home for the summer; it is a challenging, yet rewarding experience that has been invaluable to me. I now work at an advertising agency in Charlotte, NC and would never have gotten the job had I not had real world or previous sales experience.

Kara Montross, Chi Omega, University of North Carolina

The Greek Directory was one of the best summer experiences I've ever invested in. Being a premed major, I was skeptical at first with taking the job because I thought it was better experience for a business student. However, the job helped develop my interpersonal skills like I never thought it could. I learned how to turn a complete stranger into one of my best friends. It gave me an edge on my classmates and turned me into an excellent interviewer and people person, which is what top medical schools look for these days. Not to mention the job was a lot of fun, created countless connections for me in my college town, and kept a thick wad of cash in my back pocket. Thanks for hiring me and putting up with my Southern Accent. Somebody please pass the sweet tea!

Graham Calvert, Sigma Chi, Mississippi State University

What started off as a summer internship my freshman year has now turned into a major career influence in my life. Working as an Account Executive for the Greek Telephone Directory not only paid my bills, but also defined my career path and even helped me find direction in school as an undergraduate. I now feel confident talking to prospective employers and marketing my skills and experience that I've gained through three years of success with this company. This job clearly benefited me in ways no other could by putting me in direct contact with businesses and working with people to develop the skills necessary to succeed in a field of sales and management. I was even lucky enough to be in the position to train new interns, yet another experience that now puts me ahead of the game. The opportunities you will encounter with this job are endless, and the generosity of the staff is truly unmatched - I encourage you to seize this chance if it is available!

Ramsey Emara, Pi Kappa Alpha, The University of Michigan

Working for the Greek Telephone Directory has been one of the most rewarding experiences. It's not like most internships, where you sit behind a desk all day and make photocopies; I was out in the real world, talking to people. Being an Account Executive for the GTD gave me the opportunity to see what I was really made of; it challenged me to work hard every day, and the hard work was actually fun. I've learned many valuable things that will stay with me throughout my life, and I know that I would not have been able to get this much hands-on experience from any other summer internship.

Nati Lentino, Phi Mu, The University of Mississippi

My experience with the Greek Telephone Directory has been one of great personal growth- not to mention a lot of fun. I have been a part of this wonderful program for two years now and plan to return as long as I can. I have developed numerous business contacts and invaluable skills and made some great friends in my community. As an account executive, I could not have been backed by a more supportive and helpful boss- a mentor, really- who gave me all the tools I needed to succeed and run this business like it was my own. When I look to getting a job after school, I now know that I possess the skills and abilities to be successful in the business world. If you’re looking for a challenge; if you’re trying to find an internship that can really develop business skills; if you’re looking for a fun job that offers outstanding pay, I encourage you to become part of this amazing program.

Looking back, I had know idea what type of impact the Greek Telephone Directory would have on me this past summer. I remember seeing a flyer for the internship on my sorority and all I remembered was, "Make money. Trip to Chicago. Gain great internship experience." Personally, I was sold after seeing the trip to Chicago! Well, it was so much more. When you are an intern for the GTD (as you will come to reference the Greek Telephone Directory after a few weeks!) you truly feel as if you are running your own business for the summer. The outcome of the book depends on the hard work you put in, (I can not stress this enough). I've always been a responsible person, but this internship introduced me to a new level of responsibility. From my experience I have learned a lot about time management and hard work, but most importantly it taught me how to adapt to different people and different situations. I encourage you to think about this internship and to understand that it is more than a free trip to Chicago and making money, it is an experience that you could not gain from any other internship.

Alicia Pees, Delta Delta Delta, University of South Carolina

Ever since I can remember, I have always wondered where my life was headed. What was going to be my future? I found myself contemplating this question more and more as I continued through college. One morning I woke up to realize that my future was right there all along. The Greek Telephone Directory brought that to the surface. After working for the Greek Directory, I am now more business responsible and goal oriented. The experiences I had with the Greek Directory will help tremendously in my future endeavors in the "real" business world."

Clay Banks, University of Tennessee

The internship experience with the Greek Telephone Directory was something that I would not trade in a million years. It not only gave me confidence in the job market, but in my everyday life. The experience is like nothing I have ever done before in that you get to meet so many people and you actually get to help a business increase their revenue through advertising with The Greek Directory. It is such a rewarding feeling and I encourage anyone who has the opportunity to work for this company to take advantage of it.

Ryan Cornett, Delta Upsilon, Kansas State University

“I am an education major, not a salesperson.” Those were the words I first uttered when I was approached to take the internship with the Greek Telephone Directory. However, after completing the internship, I am now an education major who can sell anything! I am more confident in absolutely everything I do. After, managing my own accounts, cutting deals, working with business owners of all shapes and sizes, and bringing in a gross sales of more than $27,000 on a first-year book, I feel as though I can take on anything that comes my way. Working for the GTD was truly a pleasure. They treat you as a professional—definitely not like the gopher most interns get treated like. If you are willing to work hard, be professional, and want to earn great money, then the GTD account executive internship is for you!

Stephenie Haub, Phi Mu, Oklahoma State University

My experience as an account executive for the Greek Telephone Directory has developed and refined many of the skills necessary to be successful in the future. I am graduating from the University of Iowa in December of this year and have been interviewing with many firms. Many of my perspective employers have expressed their approval of the skills I acquired during my summer with the GTD. The internship was not only a beneficial stepping stone in my future, but was a very fun time as well. My experience started out at the conference in Chicago where I not only met many wonderful people, but also came home armed with the tools for a successful summer. The training was extremely adequate and gave you the confidence and motivation to propel you through a lucrative summer. Overall this internship has proven to be a wonderful experience whose benefits I am still enjoying today.

Ryan Engle, University of Iowa

My summer internship with the GTD was great learning experience. If sales, marketing, or advertising is in your future, then this is a perfect fit. The GTD allowed me to make a real impact on the Greek system at MSU. It was a way to get involved with local business owners, other fraternities and sororities, and the University. I was able to produce a directory that I was proud of, and MSU's Greek system could be proud of as well. The GTD has been a wonderful reference for my resume. On almost every interview I've been on, my perspective employers were extremely interested and impressed with my GTD internship and the business experience it gave me. My advice is to take advantage of this opportunity, it taught me more than any business class I had taken.
